EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR THE HEALTH OF CAREGIVERS OF PEDIATRIC ONCOLOGY PATIENTS FROM A CALI IPS

Introduction: The educational intervention in health in caregivers of pediatric cancer patients allows the development of capacities, facilitates knowledge of the disease, treatment and evolution, which makes it a fundamental strategy for strengthening health promotion processes in recovery and adaptation from self-care and family and social support.
Objectives: To describe the educational intervention strategies used in the health education program in caregivers of pediatric cancer patients of an IPS in Cali.
Methods: Mixed design study (qualitative-quantitative), descriptive observational type, information was collected through a survey, focus groups and interviews, which allowed to generate characterize, identify and propose suggestions and recommendations for educational intervention in pediatric cancer patients who receive antineoplastic treatment at the third level health institution in the city of Cali. The statistical analysis was done using an Excel database that was later exported to the statistical program SPSS, version 25, the data were coded according to the defined variables.
Results: The caregivers and patients were demographically characterized, showing that they belong to socioeconomic strata and low educational levels; They belong mainly to the subsidized EPS system. Finally, an analysis was carried out regarding the teaching strategy of the educational program aimed at families with pediatric cancer patients.
Conclusions: The educational intervention in health is an effective nursing strategy for the strengthening and development of capacities and self-care actions.
