Development of a rapid Non-communicable Disease and Risk Factor Surveillance System in China

  • Linhong Wang

The China Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over the years has developed a rapid surveillance system that covers chronic non-communicable diseases (NCD), injuries and other areas. The system has expanded to 605 disease surveillance data collection points (locations) throughout China, covering 24.3% of the national population of China. This presentation focuses on the development of the NCD and risk factor component of the surveillance system. This NCD experience will be useful for looking into similar ways for development of a communicable disease surveillance system for other countries.
