Art in a political conflict: Zapatist mythology and graphics in Chiapas, Mexico

This present article exposes the relationship between the graphic works generated from the Zapatist Movement in Chiapas and the mythical narrations embodied in the book Relatos del Viejo Antonio by Insurgent Subcommander Marcos. This article intends to show how some political analysis, which became in the armed uprising of this Movement in the year 1994, went through a narrative process that gave origin to a symbolic system of artistic order in which indigenous mythical thought integrated into political actions that transgressed geographic frontiers until turning into icons of rebellion and peace over the world, still in force up to date.
